We love our water
pure, clean, nourishing, and refreshing—the essence of life! And you know what they say: 8+ glasses a day (we average 10-12). So, we wanted a water bottle we just adored, one that reflected the greatness of water! (
and one that inspired us by its energy, but you can read more about that here.) So, we scoured the marketplace
We used disposable water bottles years ago for their convenience, but we soon became saddened by the devastating impact they have on our environment:
- Between 32 and 54 million barrels of oil are used each year to produce the disposable plastic water bottles Americans consume, and over 2.5 millions tons of carbon dioxide were created.
- 85-90% of these plastic water bottles end up in landfills, where each takes up to 1000 years to decompose.
- Bottled water takes 2000 times the amount of energy to produce than tap water.
- About 40% of bottled water comes from municipal drinking water but costs 1000 times more.
We used reusable plastic, aluminum and stainless steel water bottles when they were all the rage. And certainly they are still great alternatives for extreme portability—you know, when you’re backpacking in the North Cascades or Appalachians, climbing rocks and navigating rivers. But:
- BPA, polycarbonate, and other plastics used for various reusable plastic water bottles and in the lining of many metal bottles, are known carcinogens.
- Aluminum has been linked to Alzheimer’s disease.
- These reusable bottles are often not recycled.
- When they are recycled, they often release toxic substances during the recycling process.
- These bottles require large amounts of water and energy to recycle.
- And, let's face it... water just doesn’t taste pure and clean from plastic or metal.
So, we looked at glass and were convinced with every new piece of information we learned:
- Glass bottles are made from all-natural, sustainable raw materials and don’t leach toxic substances into the beverages they hold. (Yes, this means they are completely free of BPA, PVC, polycarbonate, other plastics, metal, phthalates, lead, and all other yukky-stuff!)
- Glass bottles are 100% reusable and 100% recyclable with no loss in quality or purity, making glass the only true “cradle-to-cradle” packaging material.
- Glass recycling is a closed-loop system, creating no additional waste or by-products, and an estimated 80% of recovered glass is made into new glass bottles.
- Everything tastes better from pure glass! There's nothing like grabbing an ice-cold glass bottle of deliciously refreshing water from the fridge...
A glass water bottle is better for you and the environment, and the water just tastes better!
Sure, when you're scaling Everest you might have to settle for a stainless steel bottle. But everyday, when you’re at the office, at home or on-the-go around town, why sacrifice pure, great tasting water?
So, when you want to do something good for yourself and the environment and the refreshing taste of crystal-clear pure water is your priority, drink from a glass water bottle
and love the water you drink!
PS: and you know what, glass water bottles can survive back-packing trips just fine, with just a little extra care. It’s all about priorities.
